      The competition had 6 first grade sides in 2025. Willagee Bears took out the Premiership Grand Final against the South Perth Lions in a game played in wet conditions.

       
       

      North Beach take out the Premiership. The NRL and WA government in discussion as expansion heats up with the Perth Bears / North Sydney negotiations on-going. An exciting time for WA rugby league, with the future once again looking promising, as the NRL looks at the West Coast

       
       

      The Premiers were North Beach and Minor Premiers were Fremantle

       
       

      The Premiers and Minor Premiers were Fremantle Roosters.

       
       

      Covid -19 wipes out Community rugby league in most states, and Perth competition kicks off in July, and climaxes with an extra time Grand Final under lights in front of a capacity crowd.

       
       
       

      The First Grade competition in 1996 was reduced to 8 first grade clubs. The teams were Belmont Steelers, Fremantle, Canning, Mosman Cottesloe, South Perth, North Beach, Rockingham and Joondalup

       
       
       

      The influx of players from the Eastern State strongholds of Rugby League was never more evident and the standard of the local competition drew in massive crowds. Rugby League fans in Western Australia were excited about the Western Reds

       
       

      1992 Wooden Spoon recipients Rockingham surprised the punters by taking out the Grand Final 14-12 over Applecross in the final minutes when Leon Goodwin (son of Ted Goodwin) scored in the Lord Street corner of Perth Oval, then took all the pressure, and kicked the goal from the sideline

       
       
       
       

      The Grand Final was between Applecross Mt Pleasant and South Perth and was played at Perth Oval. Applecross won through after beating South Perth 22-16 in the major semi-final. Applecross took out the Grand Final 18-0

       
       
       
       

      The premiership consisted of 8 clubs Applecross Mt Pleasant, South Perth, Fremantle, Cottesloe, Canning, North Beach, Willagee and Belmont Steelers. The Grand Final was between Canning and South Perth after Canning had upset the minor premiers Belmont Steelers 24-12 in a ferocious game at Ken Allen Field

       
       
       
       

      Willagee took out their first top grade minor premiership since entering the first grade competition in 1968 under the coaching of Peter Kennedy. It was a sensational season with South Perth’s loss to Mosman Cottesloe in the last game of the season at Nash Field ensuring Willagee would gain the honour

      Mosman Cottesloe and Fremantle each scored 7 tries and 5 goals with the lead changing 12 times. The temperature that day was predicted to be 31 C and the score ended that way 31 all. After two extra 10 minute each way periods of time the teams couldn’t be separated, players were exhausted and the WARL after much discussion declared joint premiers.

       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       
       

      South Perth played Victoria Park Canning in the Grand Final and after a week of rain in a few days leading up to the game the mud at Cannington Central was piled high and deeper. Victoria Park claimed the premiership, their first since 1968

       
       
       
       

      The competition expanded in 1951 losing Eastern Suburbs but gaining Nedlands and Victoria Park which made seven sides in the premiership. The Reserve grade competition expanded with 11 sides competing within an A and B Division with that Division comprising clubs from North Beach (future first grade Club), Northern Suburbs, Southern Districts, Canning Districts and Eastern Suburbs

       
       
       

      Into the new decade and the Western Australia senior competition gained one new first grade side Northern Suburbs Bulldogs (although they only lasted 2 games) , A number of clubs were however formed joining future first grade club Victoria Park who joined in 1949. Eastern Suburbs changed their colours from all Black to Maroon and Gold and Applecross stuck to the Blue colours of Newtown

       
       
       
       
       

      The 1949 season saw two more senior first grade sides added to the four foundation clubs that had completed the premiership in 1948. They were Eastern Suburbs who played out of Peet Park in Carlisle and Applecross who played out of Raphael Park

       
       
       
       
       

      The First season of rugby league in Western Australia kicked off on the 17th April at the Esplanade. The teams were a combined side consisting of players from Fremantle, Cottesloe, South Perth, Perth and Palmyra. Perth Districts beat Fremantle Districts 24-17. Five teams made up the First Grade Senior competition for 1948 being Fremantle, South Perth, Cottesloe, Perth and Palmyra who withdrew after 2 games
